I’ve always been a writer…even before I could say the worlds “I am a writer.” I’m fascinated with and in awe of how words can cajole or condemn, encourage or incite. So after a career of trying on titles for size–manager, paralegal, gift basket builder and bow maker, to name a few–I find myself right where I belong: stringing words together to tell stories.
The stories I tell for business are true–that’s accurate whether I’m writing a dating profile or a LinkedIn profile or a memoir about a life well lived and the lessons learned along the way. I’m lucky to dance between two worlds–writing for others and writing for myself. The trickiest part is explaining exactly what I do for each client because, like every story, it’s different. What it always comes back to, however, is the words.
Here’s to telling your story!
I am an experienced business development coach, author, paralegal, and entrepreneur. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies at Roosevelt University, both in Chicago, Illinois. Years of experience in law firms and corporate law departments as well as in sales, human resources, marketing and consulting influence my approach to client care and project management.
As a gift business owner, I grew a successful company that blossomed from strictly real estate closing gifts to a full service gift and corporate identity service. An award-winning designer, I was asked to present to national audiences as a speaker at The Basket Connection Trade Show and Convention for several years. I was also a Staff Writer for the industry-leading trade magazine Rave Reviews! until its final issue in November 2009. I focused on business development, marketing and strategy in both my classes and magazine articles.
As a business development manager for a nationally known corporate housing provider, I developed a successful email marketing campaign that has been adopted by additional markets as a means to continually communicate with clients and prospects in a welcome and informative way. Other accomplishments include inventive client appreciation programs and development of welcome and successful warm-call strategies.
I believe with all that I am that no two stories are the same. There is no cookie-cutter approach to what I do; each project is developed specifically to reflect each client’s current situation and future goals. I help each person get from where they are to where they want to be through the power of ‘me too moments’ and the unifying theme of story.
Most importantly, I am a mom to three amazingly diverse, witty, funny and wise-beyond-their-years children. These not-so-little-anymore people dole out blessings without realizing how incredible they are, and teach me more than I ever imagined they could. The role of mother, which for me encompasses nurturer, role model, laundry mistress, personal chef, reading partner, activist and cupcake maker, is what brings sunshine to my every day and purpose to my life.
